Camtasia and Snagit

Below is an example of feedback provided to a student using Camtasia or Snagit. Snagit allows screen capturing for videos and is easier to use than Camtasia, but does not allow video editing. Camtasia does allow complete editing functions of the video, but there is a steeper learning curve. For quick feedback or demonstration videos, Snagit is all the software that is required.

TechSmith

To create the writing on the screen using a desktop PC, a Bamboo USB tablet was used and the Notebook11 software that is provided by the manufactures of SmartBoard. Notebook11 has a feature that creates a transparent background, which can be written and captured by Camtasia or Snagit. Other software is available that provides a transparent background for capturing.

Screencast

Videos are uploaded to and stored on Screencast. A free version is available with limited bandwidth and storage capacity. To obtain more storage and bandwidth, the cost for a Pro account is $99 per year. The platform offers both public and hidden/private folders. Personalized feedback is stored in hidden folders so that personalized feedback is shared only with specific individuals. Videos can be viewed on iOS devices with the built-in Flash converter. The school offers Media Cast for instructors to upload and share videos.
